Red Clay Bricks

Red clay bricks are the traditional choice for wall construction in India. They are time-tested, widely available, and familiar to every mason. In Mumbai, red bricks are still used extensively for boundary walls, low-rise construction, and areas where the characteristic red brick look is desired.

First class bricks are essential for external walls and load-bearing walls. You can identify them by their uniform dark red colour, sharp edges, and the clear ringing sound when two bricks are struck together. Second class bricks are acceptable for interior partition walls that will be plastered over.

The main alternatives to red bricks are fly ash bricks and AAC blocks. While AAC blocks are lighter and faster to lay, red bricks are still preferred for compound walls, garden walls, and in situations where masons are more comfortable with traditional bricks.
