AAC Blocks

AAC (Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) blocks are the modern alternative to traditional bricks. They are roughly three times the size of a standard brick but much lighter, which means faster construction and reduced structural load on the building.

The key benefits of AAC blocks include: 60-70% lighter than clay bricks, excellent thermal and sound insulation, precise dimensions requiring thin-bed mortar, fire resistant, and faster construction (one AAC block replaces 8-10 bricks). Many premium residential projects in Mumbai now specify AAC blocks.

For most residential and commercial projects, 550 kg/m³ density blocks in 200mm thickness are the standard choice for external walls, and 100mm or 150mm for internal partitions. Use 650 kg/m³ density blocks where the engineer specifies higher load-bearing capacity. Brands like Magicrete and Starken AAC are the popular choices in the Mumbai market.
