20mm Aggregate

20mm aggregate is the most commonly used coarse aggregate size for concrete in building construction. It is the standard size for slabs, beams, and columns where the reinforcement spacing allows the concrete to flow and compact properly.

In the Mumbai region, aggregates are produced from the local basalt (trap rock) which is abundant in the Western Ghats. Basalt aggregate is hard, durable, and provides excellent bonding with cement paste. Most crushing plants are located along the Panvel-Pen-Khopoli belt.

When buying 20mm aggregate, check for excessive dust (fines), flaky or elongated particles, and clay lumps. Good quality aggregate should be clean, angular, and well-graded. The aggregate should be washed if the dust content exceeds 3%.
