Fly Ash Bricks

Fly ash bricks are made from fly ash (a waste product from thermal power plants), cement, and sand. They have become very popular in Mumbai because they are lighter than red bricks, have more uniform dimensions, and are environmentally friendly.

The key advantages of fly ash bricks over red clay bricks are: lighter weight (about 20% less), lower water absorption, more uniform shape and size, and better thermal insulation. The uniform size means less mortar consumption and faster wall construction.

For RCC framed buildings, where the walls are just infill panels and not load-bearing, fly ash bricks are an excellent choice. They are especially popular in high-rise projects because the lighter weight reduces the overall structural load. Many builders in Navi Mumbai and Thane have shifted entirely to fly ash bricks for their apartment projects.
